Introduction
Sleep disturbance is common in children with atopic dermatitis, and melatonin is a potential therapeutic intervention. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of available evidence.
2 Methods
Systematic search of PubMed, Embase, and Cochrane databases for randomized controlled trials examining melatonin supplementation in pediatric atopic dermatitis patients.
3 Results
Eight randomized controlled trials involving 425 children were included in the meta-analysis. Melatonin supplementation showed significant improvements in sleep quality (p<0.001) and modest improvements in disease severity scores.
4 Conclusions
Melatonin may be a safe and effective adjunctive therapy for improving sleep and quality of life in children with atopic dermatitis, though larger studies are needed.
